SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — In honor of Memorial Day, several events are scheduled in the Cape Fear on Monday to celebrate and remember those who died in service for our country.

BELVILLE
A memorial day ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial in the Belville Riverwalk Park. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end at Noon. Mayor Mike Allen will be the speaker.

BOILING SPRING LAKES
VFW Post 10400 is holding a Memorial Day ceremony at 3161 George II Hwy SE. It begins at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided following the services.

CLARKTON
Clarkton is holding a community day parade on Monday. Lineup begins at 9:30 a.m. on the north end of US Hwy 702 Business near the EJ Cox building. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m.

OAK ISLAND
Oak Island VFW is holding a Memorial Day Observance at 10:00 am at Oak Island VFW. This is being held in part with VFW Aux, Oak Island Elks, and Cape Fear Blue Star Mothers. There will be a national anthem, prayer, speeches, hanging of memorial wreaths, Amazing Grace, closing remarks, and Taps. Lunch and refreshments served at the conclusion.

SOUTHPORT
John N. Smith Cemetery Restoration and Preservation Inc. American Legion Bellamy Post 213 and Women’s Auxiliary will host a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony in Southport on Monday. Parade line will begin at 10 a.m. at the ILA Hall parking lot, located at 10th and Lord Streets. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at John N. Smith Cemetery.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

TOPSAIL BEACH
The Town of Topsail Beach is hosting a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Town Center Park on Monday at 11:00 AM to honor our military personnel who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

WILMINGTON
The annual Memorial Day ceremony at Wilmington National Cemetery begins at 11:00 a.m. It’s hosted by the New Hanover County Veterans Council.  It will feature an address by retired Coast Guard Admiral Karl Schultz. Schultz, a retired four-star admiral, last served on active duty as the 26th Commandant of the United States Coast Guard from June 2018 to June 2022.
The ceremony will begin with the presentation of colors by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and invocation by Lt. Col. Timothy Steele of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
The program will include the reading of the names of veterans who died since the previous Memorial Day.

The Battleship NC will hold its Memorial Day Observance at 4:00 p.m. to honor the military members who died will serving in the armed forces. The observance has been held on the Battleship since 1962. Colonel Marshalee E. Clarke, Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools at Camp LeJeune as the featured military speaker. There will be an invocation, benediction, memorial wreath presented by the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission, and a 21-gun salute performed by the U.S. Marines of H&S Battalion, MCB Camp Lejeune. The Duke Ladd Band will play patriotic music as well as the famous Armed Forces Medley in honor of all our veterans. The public is invited to attend this free memorial event.
