WWAY Student Athlete of the Week: Nathan McKeever

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — Our Student Athlete of the Week is from Ashley High School and he’s made quite an impact in just short amount of time.

Senior Nathan McKeever decided to give high school sports a try this season. After being encouraged by some friends, McKeever trained and joined the cross county/track and field team at Ashley and was able to make it to regionals in just his first season,

McKeever is achieving success on the track while also earning a 4.3 GPA in the classroom. McKeever said he’s always enjoyed running because it helps clear his thoughts and focus. He said you should always be open to possibilities.

“You really shouldn’t be afraid to try and pursue something new that you didn’t start before, because I was probably nervous like the first two years of high school about joining the cross-country team, even though i liked running at the time. Because I was afraid that I was going to be way too slow and not like really connect with any people.”

McKeever will attend NC State in the fall. Although his major is currently undecided, he enjoys math, science, and engineering. If you have a suggestion for WWAY Student Athlete of the Week, you can nominate them here.
